2018 will be a special year for Eesti Laul, as the 10th edition of this contest will be held in February and March. The contest has been increasing in popularity these last years and ERR has decided to hold another edition of it, with its application period opening today and closing on November 1st, 15.00 (local time).

The Estonian broadcaster has published the regulations for the applicants, which follow the EBU’s rules for Eurovision as well. As in other editions, songs featuring foreign musicians will be accepted as long as a half of the people responsible of the song are Estonian. ERR has emphasised that they will be accepting entries from both well-known artists and new talents. It’s good to remind that:

  • Composers can participate in a maximum of 3 songs, and artist cannot submit more than 3 entries.
  • Songs must not exceed the 3 minutes limit.
  • Music and lyrics to the songs must be new and not have been published earlier than September 1st, 2017.

The whole set of rules is available in Estonian at Eesti Laul’s official website.  An application form must be filled in order to compete.

Semifinals will be held on 10th and 17th February, 2018. The final is going to take place on 3rd March. ERR will announce the contestants on the Eesti Laul webpage between 19th and 20th December. Meanwhile, it is possible to buy tickets for the final here. However, the show’s popularity has got already half of the seats sold already.
